"You see me, but do you know me? I am one glaring example why not to judge a book by its cover. Half white, half Latino, 1/16th Black -I am "diversity." Looking at the world through the unique lens of a Colombian-born, naturalized citizen who looks completely White. This is my superpower. Choosing where and when to reveal myself. Born in Colombia to a short Hispanic woman and stiff-upper-lip British father, and with a great-grandmother who was half-Black. I was raised in South America, the Caribbean, and Asia. Moving countries six times before settling down in New Canaan, Connecticut (the whitest town in America in 1980.)
I'm White. I'm Hispanic. A dash of black. I am "diversity.”
